WHICH IS STRONGER?

The Wind said to the Sun one day:
“You are more beautiful than I am, but I am more important than you. I am stronger than you.”

“Oh, no!” said the Sun. “You are not stronger than I am.”

They both looked down and saw a man walking along the road.

“Do you see that man on the road?” asked the Wind. “He has a coat on. Can you take it off him? I can do so, but I am sure that you can’t. You are not strong enough.”

“Well,” said the Wind. “If you can do so and I cannot, you are stronger than I am and more important. If I can do so and you cannot, then I am stronger and more important than you are. Am I right?”

“Yes,” answered the Sun. “You are right. If you make the man take his coat off, you are stronger than I am. If I make him take it off, I am stronger than you. You try first.”

“All right,” said the Wind. “I shall show you.”

The Wind began to blow. The weather became colder.
The man held his coat with both his hands.
“I am glad that I have my coat on,” thought the man.

The Wind blew, but the man didn’t take his coat off.
At last he said to the Sun:
“It’s your turn now. I am very tired.”

It was evening already, but the Sun began to shine.
The sky became brighter. The evening was warm.

The man smiled. “There is no wind at all,” he thought.
“I am very warm. I have to take my coat off and sit on the grass.
It is a very wonderful evening. There are no clouds in the sky.
The evening is the most beautiful part of the day.”

The man took his coat off.

“You see now,” said the Sun to the Wind.
“You were wrong. I made the man take off his coat.
I am stronger than you. So, I am more important and more beautiful than you.
I can say that I am the most important thing in the world.
People love me very much.”
