POEM: THE AUTUMN WINDS BLOW
by Winifred & E. Bernard
The autumn winds do blow and the brown leaves fall
Down to the earth below,
They cover the flowers and keep them all warm,
Safe from the frost and snow. The squirrels are scampering round the trees,
Finding the nuts that fall,
They gather them quickly and hide them away,
Shiny ones, big and small. The swallows are flying across the sea,
Going to countries warm,
Away from the cold wind, the rain and the fog,
Safe from the winter’s storm.
TEXT. AUTUMN
Autumn begins in September.
The summer holidays are over.
Autumn is the harvest season.
There are a lot of vegetables and fruit in the gardens and fields.
The sun shines, but the weather isn’t hot.
All the trees shed yellow, red, and brown leaves.
Indian Summer brings warmth and pleasant days.
Then the weather changes. It gets colder and colder.
The sky is often grey and cloudy.
Sometimes it rains and snows together.
