📖 Text – The British Isles. Geography

The British Isles consist of two large islands — Great Britain and Ireland.
There are over 5,000 smaller islands around the British Isles.
Great Britain, the largest island in Europe, consists of England, Scotland, and Wales.
Ireland has two parts — Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.

The Atlantic Ocean is in the west.
The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland.
The North Sea is to the east of Great Britain.
The English Channel lies between Great Britain and the continent.
The British Isles are warmed by the Gulf Stream.

The Isle of Man is situated in the Irish Sea.
Its capital is Douglas.
The town lies in a valley at the confluence of the Dhoo and Glass Rivers, from which it takes its name.
The earliest inhabitants on the Isle of Man were Celts.
In the north, there are the Orkneys, with more than seventy islands.
